Description
The Mighty Acorn from Jeannette Douglas Designs. This design is a spin-off of Jeannette’s Roses and Acorns sampler. As she says:
I drew these fully out as large round shapes that came together, of course it took up the whole fabric just about – so then I thought I could just take a portion and low and behold I had the row of Bargello in the Roses & Acorns sampler. I loved the big acorn so much that I thought he would look great on 40ct fabric in Tudor silk and then have this super Bargello border. So off I went…
Vikings associated the Oak tree with the god Thor. Oak trees attracted lightning and were sacred to Thor. The fruit of the oak was believed to be spared by the god’s wrath. Vikings began putting acorns in their windows to protect their homes from lightning. Acorns are an emblem of luck, prosperity, youth, and power.
This design is stitched in luxurious silk. Many “specialty” stitches are used – there are diagrams and written instructions for all of them, making this design approachable – if you have patience (and Google), your initial skill level with specialty stitches will not be important.
