Description
Prairie West Sampler from the Canadian Journey Series. Drink in the great expanses of waving wheat as you tour the Lazy J Ranch. Visit and learn about the Native American cultures, history, and traditions that permeate the atmosphere. The sampler contains 33 bands, done in a palette of DMC and over-dyed silks. Many “specialty” stitches are used – there are diagrams and written instructions for all of them, making this design approachable – if you have patience (and Google), your initial skill level with specialty stitches will not be important.
Each band is described both in terms of how to execute the stitches, and in its significance or symbolism to the sampler as a whole. Jeannette includes wonderfully interesting tidbits of history and lore behind each subject. You will share her delight and joy as you stitch this stunning sampler. As Jeannette says,
Living on the prairies has given me a great love for the West… Its extremes of colour range from the browns of late August and September to the pure white with bright sun in winter; the rectangular fields of canola the blossom neon yellow under the cloudless azure skies in summer to the cheerfully painted grain elevators in all seasons…
